Boy, oh boy, has life gotten complicated lately!
The truth is that it’s always been complicated, but recent events have put a bright hot spotlight on just how difficult is is for lots of folks.
Hi there, my name is Shelley. I’m a former teacher, a mom of three millennials, a card-carrying member of the Sandwich Generation, and I’m on a mission to make sure that all of us have the everyday skills we need to survive…and hopefully thrive…even when life is crazy.
Here’s the deal…we’re all facing challenges.
If you’re setting up your first home, then you’re figuring out that there were lots of things your mom did that you didn’t recognize, If you’re (ahem) a little older then there may be things you’re having to take care of that a spouse always used to handle.
So whether you’re new to being out on your own or have been on your own for a while, sometimes we look up and realize that there are things that no one taught us that we now need to know.
- How to save money, live frugally, pay off debt, and save for the future
- How to plan meals and grocery shop
- Basic cooking skills to keep us fed but get us out of the kitchen in a hurry
- How to keep our space neat, clean, organized, maintained, and yes, even downsized
- How to take care of basic home maintenance issues
These skills have always been important, but they’re absolutely essential now. So if for some reason you didn’t pick them up from your own mama, then feel free to listen in while I make sure I’ve passed everything I know on to my own kids while continuing to learn the things I need to learn as well.
On a more personal note, I’m a bit of a political junkie and a feminist from way back (something I”m proud to have passed on to my own daughter). I’m a huge fan of disaster movies, trashy novels, and sparkly jewelry. I believe that there’s more than one way to skin a cat, that people can tell you no but they can’t kill you, that there’s nothing wrong with being a bundle of contradictions, and that a little vanilla in your drink makes everything better.
Where you can find me
Here are a few places you can find me, but I admit that I like email the most.
I also send out a weekly email newsletter which I’d love to have you join. I promise that you won’t find me driving you crazy with a ton of emails (I happen to hate that myself!).
Finally, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact me below.
