Are you tired of waiting for permission to tame the frenzy in your life?
Hi there! I'm Shelley Merchant and I've been right where you are.
I was raised to be a good girl and do what people told me. And I did.
And through it all I struggled.
I struggled trying to live up to the expectations set by others.
I worried about pleasing others, about doing a good job, about proving competence, and I chased balance while simultaneously celebrating workaholism (crazy, right?).
I was frazzled, exhausted, and yes...frenzied.
And then in 2021 I got a wake up call.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. And in one very clear blinding flash of the obvious, it became clear that during my struggles, I was the source of most of my own frenzy.
But I vowed that would change.
I would no longer subject myself to unrealistic standards set by others. I would no longer be a people pleaser. And I would no longer put off doing the things I'd always wanted.
I would, however, work to become the best version of myself possible, to pursue a few goals and dreams, and to enjoy whatever time I have left.
And that's what I'm doing...and it's great!
I hope you never get the kind of wake up call that I got. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
But if you're at the point where you're ready to shed old expectations and enjoy all aspects of your life, then hang around. We can walk the path and learn from each other.
