Start Your Next Chapter And Do The Work You’ve Always Wanted
You’ve been the good daughter, the supportive wife, the loving parent, and the loyal employee. Now isn’t it time you did what you’ve always dreamed of doing?
There comes a point in everyone’s life when they’re finally ready:
Ready to toss old expectations aside
Ready to ditch the 9 to 5
Ready to quit being defined by their relationship to others
Ready to chase their dreams
And finally ready to take their turn!
When that time comes, many of us decide that it’s time to work for ourselves. We’re ready to start a home business that supports our dreams and lifestyle and that lets us be our own boss. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to write a book. Or maybe you’ve been a bookkeeper for others – why not hang out your own shingle? Maybe you’re great at designing graphics, or creating websites. Or maybe you’re ready to start a blog about something you’re passionate about or work as a virtual assistant to others. Whatever your talents and skills are, you can put them to work for YOU…not for someone else.
But here’s the rub – it’s not easy.
In fact, many older solopreneurs struggle. They struggle with confidence, mindset issues, and productivity. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could make those issues disappear so that we could get on with the businesses of turning dreams into reality?
Our beliefs about ourselves are frequently what is holding us back and preventing us from going after what we want. The belief that “I’m just a …” and that we don’t know enough keep us from doing the things we want…and that deep down we know we can do if given the chance. Those limiting beliefs can be overcome by developing our confidence and by addressing our negative thoughts head on.
We may have been productive when we worked outside the home, but now we’re struggling knowing what to do and how to juggle everything. When others set the agenda for us it was much easier, but now it’s up to us to figure out what to do and when…and to be disciplined enough to get it done while also taking care of the other numerous responsibilities we have during this stage of our lives.
Setting achievable goals can be tricky. In order to achieve a goal you’ve got to be able to break it down into projects and tasks…and to put those things into your daily To Do list so that you’re always moving towards completing them. Turning nebulous dreams into achievable goals is possible once you know the steps.
“We aren’t the girls who were told we could be anything we wanted.”
Hi! I’m Shelley and I’ve been right where you are
I was raised to be a good girl, to follow the rules, and do what people told me to do. And I did.
I spent my career working in education, but the time finally came when I decided it was my turn. I’d had enough of doing what was expected of me. That’s when I turned in my notice, moved half-way across the state, and began working from home.
It hasn’t always been easy. I’ve made mistakes, had to learn things the hard way, and have struggled with self-doubt, lack of direction, and simply not knowing what to do next.
It was lonely, frustrating, and I’d like to keep others from suffering the same fate.
Here’s the thing: we weren’t the girls who were told we could do or be anything we wanted. We were raised to put others first and ignore our own dreams and goals. As a result we’ve struggled with confidence, figuring out what we really want to do, and creating a plan to make it happen.
It’s not too late to chase those dreams and goals. But it is time to get started. So let’s work on the issues that are holding you back.
