Have you ever made fitness goals that you didn’t keep? Most of us have made the same fitness goals over and over again without seeing much change in our behavior. Personally, I need something tangible to help keep me motivated. I ended up finding it in my daughter’s Christmas present.

What IS That Funny Looking Thing?
I’d seen those little black bands on the wrists of women I’d worked with and when I’d ask what they were I’d just hear “Oh, it counts my steps,” or some other vague answer about what these little rubber band looking things do.
Researching the different Fitbit models was a real eye-opener. Who knew this strange looking device could keep track of so much information? I was hooked but decided that I’d wait till my daughter opened hers and set it up to make a final decision on which model I wanted for myself.
Being a newcomer to the Fitbit craze, I decided that the Flex would best suit my current needs. I can’t tell you how excited I was when we headed to the nearest Humongo-mart to make my purchase! I had recently started a walking plan with a friend but I had no real way to track how far we were walking or to keep track of our steps. Now the first thing I do after arriving home from our morning exercise is to sync up with my cell phone to see how much I’ve accomplished.
Talk about a great feeling! Even if I do nothing else all day, I know that I’ve gotten most of my daily step goal out of the way and I have tangible proof of my progress. But this little device keeps track of so much more.
Ways Fitbit Can Help Improve Your Health
Fitbit lets you monitor your daily water intake. To be honest, before I got the Fitbit Flex, I wasn’t even drinking any water. I was hooked on iced tea which I rationalized was an improvement from my Sonic soda addiction. But since the Flex keeps this little nugget of information, I decided to make a switch. I still drink iced tea, and I can’t drive past a Sonic drive thru without, you know, driving through, but it’s another improvement I’ve made that I’m sure will benefit my overall health. And I would never have done it except that the Fitbit made it a competition.
I can also track my sleep, my weight (we’re not going there right now!), how many calories I’ve burned, and I could even log every bite if I wanted to get that detailed (which I don’t). I only take the Fitbit off when I shower and I’m learning to love how it lets me keep track of things I’m doing (or not doing) to take care of my health.

My daughter loves the one she got for Christmas so much that she says, “My whole life is in my Fitbit.” She’s upgrading to the next model because she loves it so much.
