a flaky crust with a warm topping of apples and cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
In a mixing bowl, mix the flour, and sugar.
With a pastry knife, cut the vegetable shortening into the flour until well combined.
Add the water a little at a time while mixing with a spatula to form a dough.
Grease a pizza pan with vegetable shortening and dust the surface with flour. Roll the dough into a 14 inch diameter circle.
Peel and slice your apples and arrange them on the center of the dough while leaving 2 inches around the edge to turn up.
Combine the sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Sprinkle the surface of the apples with the lemon juice and then sprinkle the sugar-spice mixture.
Fold the edges of the crust up around the apple filling and transfer the galette to a 400 F pre-heated oven.
Bake the galette for about 1 hour or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
Let the galette cool on the pan on a wire rack until it is warm enough to touch without burning your fingers.
Slice and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
