a sweet treat that's great for breakfast or as a snack
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place the sugar, salt, cinnamon and other spices in a small mixing bowl and mix them well and set aside.
Remove the biscuits from the package and cut into halves.
Place them in the bowl with the cinnamon sugar, and toss them until all pieces are evenly coated. Don't worry if you don't use all the spicy sugar you made; save the excess for your oatmeal or cereal.
Liberally grease the 9 inch diameter pan with vegetable shortening and place the biscuit halves to fill the pan in a pattern that pleases you.
Spoon in any of the leftover spicy sugar that didn't stick to the biscuits.
Bake the biscuits according to the manufacturer's instructions. Since the manufacturer of these biscuits called for 12-15 minutes at 350 F, I cooked them for 25 minutes since they are in a tight pan and will need some extra heating to get done.
In a separate small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave and stir in the honey and vanilla extract.
When the biscuits are done, use a teaspoon to drizzle this mixture evenly over the top of the monkey bread.
Pop the monkey bread back into a 350 F oven for 10 more minutes to set the glaze then allow it to cool briefly before serving. You can serve directly from the pan or if you're using a springform pan, you can easily get the monkey bread onto a serving plate.
